Starting your day with the Newspaper?

"The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts."

  - Marcus Aurelius

We live in a digital age and most of the information we consume today either comes through social media or some news app installed on our devices, but there's also a distinct population relying solely (or in addition) on the newspaper even today, and this article might appear more relatable to them.

From last 1.5 - 2 yrs., my mornings generally begin with a cup of coffee and a newspaper, someone told me it's very important to read the newspaper every day so that you can get equipped with the knowledge of current affairs on a daily basis, and I followed without asking; It usually takes me about an hour or so to finish it and it's true I really do get the exposure of current happenings across my country and across the globe; but there's a catch, I get the exposure of various kinds of news i.e. From positive to negative, political to non-political, economy to entertainment, positive measures to heinous crimes, everything is right there in front of me every single morning, and honestly it hasn't really been that beneficial to my mental state than it has been to my general awareness level, and the credits goes to the aforementioned type of news that fills the majority of my daily newspaper i.e. The crime section, but to my correction there is usually no such well-defined section instead it is present all over the newspaper, divided into various sections, comprising mostly of crimes like murders, rapes, mob lynching and what not, and all it does is make me realize how helpless I am and how low some humans can go sometimes for their monetary gain or ruin someone's life just to satisfy their lust, comparing them to animals will be derogatory to the animal kingdom itself, but that's not the only issue here, the real issue that I want to highlight in this article is starting our every single day with the worst sort of information out there, and I would not consider it the best way of starting the day, would I?

So, why don't I skip the newspaper in the first part of my day itself and shift its timing to a later hour?

To be honest I've already tried and failed in the task; the short explanation for it would be "because I've been in the habit of reading the newspaper for so long that now if I don't do it as my first-morning chore, I feel like something is missing;" some people might regard it as a positive habit that should be incorporated by everyone but for me, it has been a terrible habit that has negatively influenced my mental state for a very long time, and this is something I really need to work upon.

While this might not be a problem for a majority of people, I would completely agree with the fact that many people might not be affected by such news with the same intensity as others do and they might even consider skipping through such sections and continuing with the rest of the positive information available in the newspaper, but for certain people (including me) such an option might not exist, and I'm sure that a considerable part of the crowd belongs to this category too.

And I'm in no way suggesting that we should stop reading the newspaper altogether or become like an ostrich with our heads buried into the ground, that will be an even worse thing to do because if we don't read about it, we won't think about it, and if we won't think about it, we wouldn't really do anything about it; but that's not what we are here for, we're not here to ignore the world's problems and just focus on our lives, our real goal should be to ratify those problems, think of a solution, and take appropriate actions and ultimately make this world a better place.

Thank you for your time.

Let's talk about Motivation!

(Note: there is nothing motivational about this post, it's more of an honest conversation.) Sometimes I wonder about a time before the internet boom happened, a time when phones were dumb, and humans were well... almost the same as they're today.  A time when YouTube didn't exist, a time when motivational videos were delivered live at the beginning of our classroom lecture by our beloved teacher, A time when they used to share their life story with the whole class & tell us about the struggles they faced and how they overcame all of it fiercely, while we as kids used to get transported into that "wow" state while listening to them. Nowadays a short, a reel or a video can also provide us with a dose of motivation in the click of a button but there's a catch in this scenario; back in the day in our classroom after receiving that motivational dose we used to go back to our studies energetically & usually paid more attention in that particular class becaus...

Start accepting yourself and the world around you

“The truth is: Belonging starts with self-acceptance. Your level of belonging, in fact, can never be greater than your level of self-acceptance, because believing that you’re enough is what gives you the courage to be authentic, vulnerable and imperfect. — Brene Brown.” First of all, accepting yourself doesn’t mean settling down or becoming a pessimist; You can’t say, “Oh, I live an unhealthy lifestyle, but that’s the way I’m!”. That isn’t accepting yourself, that’s just being lazy. Accepting yourself is accepting the way you are, your weaknesses and your strengths, what makes you unique, what drives your passion, and what gives you satisfaction and happiness. No one is built the same, and I’m not talking about the physical structure but about your brain and your thought process. Someone might be an introvert who enjoys their own company rather than being surrounded by lots of people while the other may be completely opposite, and there is no problem in either, the actual problem start...

Plight of the Donkey Routes

Have you watched the movie “In Time”, a 2011 Sci-fi Action-packed movie starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried along with Cillian Murphy and many others, if you haven’t, you should. In brief, it is about a future where people stop ageing after 25 and in order to stay alive, they have to buy time as a currency, in such a world the rich are almost immortal while the poor barely manage to buy time either through working for it or by borrowing or stealing it. It also shows the stark difference in societies in which the rich lived when the character Will (played by Justin) enters New Greenwich (the richest time zone) while on the run after being accused of murder and is suspected of not belonging there because of his rushed behaviour, and the story goes on. But if we think about it and remove all the science fiction parts, there won’t be much difference between our current society and the one portrayed in that movie. One must ask why you feel like that? Well, I’ll come to that after...
