The alarm rings off your phone, the partially alive you completely submerged in the oceanic comfort of sleep, struggling to push that snooze button to silence that annoying little thing from disturbing your comforting state, somehow managing to shut it off saying, “Just 5 more minutes” and waking up after an hour. More or less our mornings begin like that only until n unless the day comes when the burden of responsibility becomes heavier than the comfort of our bed.
Waking up early seems like such an easy task, isn’t it? why then, do we struggle for it every morning?
We can come up with a range of answers or excuses.
Let’s take another example of “I would reduce my junk food intake and I’ll regularly exercise starting from tomorrow!” and somehow that tomorrow never comes or comes as a weekend. We dwell back on our previous habits with another set of brand-new excuses.
So, what is the common problem in all of such issues in our day-to-day lives?
One can say it’s the lack of determination, but is that it?
I’ve been struggling to fight off a lot of bad habits in my life for a very long time, some of them I did manage to fix, and others are still somewhere a work in progress. But I’m sure this would be the case for most of us, there will rarely be anyone out there who can proudly say “Oh! I’ve fixed all my bad habits” (except for someone like David Goggins of course!)
But I guess that’s how we’re supposed to be, in the pursuit of getting better every day.
No one can become perfect, but everyone can surely walk one step at a time in that direction. that’s my take on life.
Instead of fighting to overcome one bad habit, ask yourself every day: “Is this habit making me any better? if not, what should I be doing to become a better person?” Take small steps to break that habit instead of taking a major drastic step.
See, you cannot transform in one day but if you keep walking in the right direction, someday you’ll be there.
p.s. you can consider reading the book “Atomic Habits”, but quite frankly just reading any book won’t change anything until you apply those methods in your life.
